Vedic Science And Modern Science

Were our Ancestors Dumb?

One of the biggest assumptions of modern society is that, anything that is being discovered or invented today is being done so for the first time in Human history. In other words, in spite of having the same brain for over two million years, and known history of ancient civilizations for over past 10000 years or so, we assume that only in the last 4-5 centuries did the human beings started thinking scientifically and are doing technological inventions and scientific discoveries. We assume that all our ancient ancestors were dumbs who spent time in blind faiths, unscientific practices, uncivilized activities and so on.
Now this myth is nothing different from the medieval belief that earth was the center of the universe, that our place in the universe was something special. Where as the truth is that in the vastness of this universe we are much smaller than a quark inside a proton within an atom inside a grain of sand as compared to the size of the planet earth. The universe is so large that we are nowhere to be seen on its scale.
We tend to ignore the fact that long before the Greek were thinking that the Earth was flat and was the center of the universe, the ancient Indians had declared that Earth was round and revolving around the Sun.
Learn from the Great Scientists, Historians and Writers
When we believe that modern technology is really modern, this prejudice makes us question great physicists like Oppenheimer, the father of modern atomic bomb who on seeing the first nuclear explosion in the last century said that he had read the description of a  nuclear weapon in Bhagavadgita – the ancient Sanskrit text which says,

“If the radiance of a thousand suns
Were to burst at once into the sky
That would be like the splendor of the Mighty one…
I am become Death,
The shatterer of Worlds.”
When asked about how he felt on exploding the first atomic bomb on earth, Oppenheimer replied that the explosion was “First in modern times“.
It is not that we cannot believe such things, it is simply that we DO NOT want to believe this. How can my great grand father be more intelligent than me? is our attitude. We forget that it is our great ancestors who taught us how to count.

We seldom realize the importance of what Einstein said

- We should be thankful to Indians who taught us how to count without which no worthwhile scientific discovery would have been possible.
We fail to recognize the magnitude of the famous British Historian Grant Duff’s words

- Many of the advances in the sciences that we consider today to have been made in Europe were in fact made in India centuries ago.
We ignore what the American Historian Will Durant said
- India was the motherland of our race and Sanskrit the mother of Europe’s languages. India was the mother of our philosophy, of much of our mathematics, of the ideals embodied in Christianity… of self-government and democracy. In many ways, Mother India is the mother of us all.
Most of us are not even aware of the historical facts which the famous French philosopher and writer Voltaire knew when he wrote
- It is very important to note that some 2,500 years ago at the least Pythagoras went from Samos to the Ganges to learn geometry…But he would certainly not have undertaken such a strange journey had the reputation of the Brahmins’ science not been long established in Europe

What made the famous American Writer Mark Twain say
- India is the cradle of the human race, the birthplace of human speech, the mother of history, the grandmother of legend and the great grand mother of tradition
What was Carl Sagan, the famous physicist trying to imply when he said
- The Hindu religion  is the only one of the world’s great faiths dedicated to the idea that the Cosmos itself undergoes an immense, indeed an infinite, number of deaths and rebirths.  It is the only religion in which the time scales correspond, no doubt by accident, to those of modern scientific cosmology.  Its cycles run from our ordinary day and night to a day and night of Brahma, 8.64 billion years long. Longer than the age of the Earth or the Sun and about half the time since the Big Bang.  And there are much longer time scales still.

What did he mean when he further said
- A millennium before Europeans were wiling to divest themselves of the Biblical idea that the world was a few thousand years old, the Mayans were thinking of millions and the Hindus billions!

Vedas – Ancient Knowledge Treasures -

The ancient Indian vedic texts are the oldest texts in the world and contain treasures of knowledge in them.
It is a common allegation that – The moment a new discovery is made in modern science, vedic scholars line up claiming that ”vedic texts already said this” and refer to some random quote or hymn from the vedic texts.
Now let us start with the above famous quote from Einstein when he said ”We should be thankful to Indians who taught us how to count, without which no worthwhile scientific discovery would have been possible“.
Einstein was referring to the invention of modern mathematics by ancient Indians. The entire science and technology today is based on the mathematics invented by ancient vedic scholars. Just have a look at the mathematics followed by ancient Greeks where each number was represented by a unique symbol, so if we had 100 numbers then there were 100 symbols, and as they ran out of new symbols, they invented more and more new symbols. 100 was represented by C, 50 by L, thousand by M and so on. Now with this kind of mathematics one could hardly do anything other than simple addition. Have you ever tried doing a simple multiplication using Roman Numbers? These numbers were fit for nothing else other than decorating the digits on a clock.
Now compare this to the mathematics invented by the ancient vedic scholars. Here we use only a limited set of symbols, say 9 symbols from 1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9 and use a combination of these to represent ANY numeric value no matter how huge be it 25 or 872134870235. Yes, the place value system using bases was invented by the ancient Indians, and as a by-product of this invention they also invented zero (the word zero itself is derived from Sanskrit word Shunya which means Nothing) to represent empty places without any value, because without zero you cannot use place value system to differentiate between 11 and 101. And as Einstein rightly said, the entire modern science and mathematics is based on these Hindu numerals (also called Hindu-Arabic Numerals because it was the Arab merchants who came from India who had introduced this system to Europe). No software could be written and so no computers would have been possible without the invention of zero, isn’t  it? All software after all run on binary or the base 2 system – zero and one.
Now, would it look odd if I said that the modern arithmetic is already described in the vedas or other ancient Sanskrit texts? I don’t think so, because that is where it came from. Pythagoras after whom the famous theorem is named, never gave a proof of his theorem and is said to have learnt the statement of the theorem which relates the hypotenuse of a right angled triangle to the other two sides of that triangle – on a visit to India! Voltaire, a great french philosopher and writer said that, Pythagoras went from Samos to the shores of Ganga in India to learn Geometry.
Ancient vedic texts speak about telepathy and conversations between people who were geographically located far away from each other, and were ridiculed as being unscientific in nature by modern scientific public. Many even today believe that this kind of distant communication is unscientific. But not those who know quantum mechanics and who have studied that non-locality or instantaneous communication between two particles located light years apart from each other is a fundamental aspect of nature. This Instantaneous Communication in quantum mechanics and has been proved again and again, and physicists are still trying to understand how it works. And when I say that ancient vedic seers had mastered the technique of instantaneous communications (probably by mastering this aspect of quantum mechanics), would it be fair to say that I said it only after quantum mechanical nature of particles was discovered? Wasn’t this being told from the very day these texts were written?
Vedic Chants and Positive Influence on Human Minds
Ancient vedic chants are said to bring positive influence on human minds and actions. It is said that they were designed (or written) to be so – pools of positive energy stimulating and encouraging our minds to be good, to do good and to feel good. But till yesterday modern science was rejecting this claim. But a recent Russian discovery has proved that human DNA is like a biological internet which listens to external sound vibrations and behaves accordingly, as if it is being directed and told to perform so.
Now if I say that vedic texts had already told this, that vedic chants can influence human actions and bring in positive mood, will it be fair to accuse me of making use of a modern discovery to prove an ancient point. Weren’t the ancient texts already saying this? While modern science till yesterday was saying that 90% of human DNA was junk, the above said and other recent discoveries have only proved that Modern science till now actually did not understand 90% of the DNA. Even today Modern science is unable to explain how did the human brain suddenly evolve so large and so organized to make us an intelligent species!
Please note that Modern Science is still evolving and not perfect. It has not answered ALL the questions. There is a difference between the science we know and the actual science according to which nature functions. What we called as science during the days of Ptolemy is not science today. Einstein proved Newton wrong, and quantum mechanics may prove Einstein wrong. What we know as science today may not remain so tomorrow. Humanity is still on the path of understanding nature. We have hundreds of unanswered questions in all fields of science. So in the name of science (like how fanatics do in the name of God) let us not outrightly reject all the ancient knowledge as nonsense, we need to remember that while our modern science has evolved only in the past 500 years or so, there are ancient civilizations which have lived for thousands of years continuously, and so there are greater possibilities that they knew much better than us.

Evolution of Human Species
Long before modern science up with the theory of evolution, vedic texts had said that human species had to cross 8.4 million other species before coming into existence, which means that before humans came into existence 8.4 million other species had already evolved. Now if I say that theory of evolution was mentioned in the ancient sanskrit texts, will it be right to ridicule it saying I am just making use of some number in an ancient hymn to make the texts look scientific?

Om – the Universal Vibration and String Theory -

The critics say that vedic scholars only talk about already done inventions or discoveries to prove the texts as being scientific, and not predict some yet to be discovered fact. Well, the fact is, vedic texts have been saying what they have to for thousands of years, only those who listen to it do so after a corresponding scientific discovery is made.
Take the case of string theory. You can take any vedic text thousands of years old, or commentaries on vedic texts by scholars centuries old, or even those works at the beginning of the last century, and they all say that the entire universe is made up of vibrations, and the vedic hymn Om (0r aum) symbolizes this universal vibration. But all these days this vedic statement was said to be unscientific – claiming that there are no such vibrations in the universe, its only quantum particles everywhere, so on and so forth.
Very recently, in the past few decades, String theory was put forward by eminent scientists, and the very basis of this string theory which is trying to unify gravity and quantum mechanics is that, the entire universe finally is made up of vibrating entities titled strings – every single particle in this universe, even space, gravity, matter, light all are made up of vibrations of different frequencies – is what the String theory says.
Now isn’t this what the ancient vedic texts said, what the vedic scholars had been saying – which was called unscientific till a century back, and today if somebody says that “vedic texts spoke about universal vibrations just like how modern string theory does“, would it be fair to accuse saying that, “only after the discovery of string theory are the vedic scholars saying this“, while the matter of fact is that you can pick up any older book or work and read about it.
What is interesting to note here is that this kind of allegation is done NOT by the scientists who worked on these actual discoveries, but only by the so called prejudiced readers of these scientific discoveries who do not want to believe that some new discovery or invention had already been described in some ancient text. While the father of Modern atomic bomb had no hesitation saying that Bhagavadgita contained the description of a nuclear explosion, our modern popular-science book readers without having ever read Bhagavadgita nor having solved a relativistic equation – reject this statement outrightly.
Consider the simple fact. Almost all of the modern science and technology was discovered and invented in just the past 500 years or so. The ancient Indian vedic civilization spanned at least 5000 years. Now if in just 500 years so much of science and technology could be achieved, one can only imagine how much would have been achieved in 5000 years.

Layers of Skin

Now take this fact. Modern science says that skin has 4-5 layers, where as Ayurveda says that skin has 7 layers! Now tomorrow when Modern Science discovers the other two layers in the skin, would it be wrong for vedic scholars or ayurvedic doctors to claim that the ayurvedic texts already spoke about this?

Types of Sleep
While modern science talks about three states of mind – awakening, dreaming and deep sleep – which is described by vedic texts as Jagruti, Swapna and Sushupti respectively, the vedic texts also describe a fourth state of mind called Turiya which is said to be beyond these three states and is not described by modern science. Now tomorrow when modern science discovers this fourth state of mind, wouldn’t it be fair for vedic scholars to claim that the vedic seers knew about this fourth state of mind too?
And I can go on and on like this citing examples. But that does not mean to claim that whatever is discovered or will be discovered is already mentioned in the ancient texts. All it means is that when a vedic scholar makes such claim, it needs to be investigated by studying those texts and the claim needs to be verified, not rejected over right.
After all, the great scientists and scholars mentioned at the beginning of this article cannot be all wrong, there must be some substance to their statements. Scientists like Subhash Kak who has written about the Astronomical code in the Rigveda, Rick Briggs of NASA who is doing research on Sanskrit and Artificial Intelligence, or S S De and P V Vartak who discovered the Speed of Light mentioned in the commentaries on Rig Veda all should have based their studies on some solid foundation. Isn’t it?
While modern science is still struggling to understand how on earth were the pyramids of Egypt built, will it be an exaggeration to say that the first private aircraft in History was owned by Ravana, the king of Lanka in the Tretayuga during the period of Ramayana and the aircraft was called Pushpaka Vimana – and note that this was at least 7000 years back as per the Astronomical dating of Ramayana
And finally, for those who can understand it, here is a quote by the English Philosopher Alan Watts
To the philosophers of India, however, Relativity is no new discovery, just as the concept of light years is no matter for astonishment to people used to thinking of time in millions of kalpas, (A kalpa is about 4,320,000 years). The fact that the wise men of India have not been concerned with technological applications of this knowledge arises from the circumstance that technology is but one of innumerable ways of applying it.
Astronomical Dating Of The Vedic Age

If you want to get something that you never had before, do something that you had never done before!
Let us try to do a simple and straightforward astronomical dating of the actual vedic period.
In the ancient vedic culture, people used to consider the beginning of a new year on the day of the vernal equinox.
Now a bit of equinox.
Earth’s axis of rotation is not perpendicular to that of sun’s equatorial plane and instead is tilted at an angle of about 23 degrees. So, as earth moves around the sun it appears as though the sun is rising slightly north of due east for half of the year, and then slightly south of due east during the other half of the year.
Thus there are two points where as observed from earth Sun makes a transition from north to south and south to north, and at these two points, sun rises exactly due east, and these points are called equinoxes. One is the spring equinox and the other is the vernal equinox.

It is to be observed that in northern hemisphere what looks like a transition of sun from south to north i.e vernal equinox, actually looks like a transition from north to south when observed in the souther hemisphere.
There are also two other points of extremes of north and south which sun touches and comes back as it rises everyday, and these are called summer and winter solstices. So over a period of time it looks as though sun is oscillating on either side of the due east during sun rise (or either side of due west on sunset)!
Note that what we consider as summer solstice in northern hemisphere is winter solstice in southern hemisphere. Seasons on earth are due to the tilting of earth’s axis, and hence when there is summer in the northern hemisphere its winter in south and vice versa.

Now coming back to the equinoxes. During the vedic ages, new year began on vernal equinox and was called Agrahayana. Agrahayana means beginning of the year. The new year then was celebrated in the vedic month of Margashira (named after a star lambda orionis in the constellation of Orion).
Since there is also a precession of the earth’s axis, the equinox dates keep changing every year, and when seen from a stellar background the constellation in which the sun rises on the vernal equinox also keeps changing over a period of time.
In our times today, the sun rises in the background of Pisces (Meena Rashi) on the vernal equinox. Whereas in the vedic period it used to rise in the background of Gemini (Margasira/Orion is in Gemini).
The earth’s precession takes about 25,800 years for one complete cycle. Since there are in total 12 constellations for the sun to make its journey, it means sun stays in every constellation for about 2150 years on the day of the vernal equinox!
Now let us see as to approximately how many years would sun require to move from Gemini to Pisces. This can be achieved by simply calculating the number of constellations in between and multiplying it by 2150. From Gemini we have Taurus, Aries and then Pisces, which means some where between three to four constellations (four including the place of stay)
In other words, we can assume that the vedic age might have been somewhere between 8600 years ago till about 6450 ago. This approximation is also supported by the geological data of the now extinct mighty Saraswati river !
In modern calendar system this would translate to somewhere between 6600 BCE to 4450 BCE, and thats definitely a long long time ago! If modern science can achieve so much in a span of millenia or so, its not surprising that the vedic people would have achieved much more over a period of thousands of years!
Please note that in the above mentioned approach, we can also go back to earlier multiples of 25800 years like (n x 25800)+8600 years ago to (n x 25800)+6450 years ago, by visiting back to all the previous Gemini ages of vernal equinox!
So using some simple astronomy and arithmetics, and a simple clue, we tried to do a simple calculation of the approximate vedic period.
If this calculation sounded complicated to you, well, we have to keep things as simple as possible, but not any simpler
Vedas also talk about vega being the pole star, and this happened the last time at about 12000 BC! Looks like what we read as known history in the text books is just the first line of a huge epic consisting of thousands of pages!
Geographical Span Of Ancient India – Jambudveepe Bharathavarshe Bharathakhande-

We know the geography of earth today as shown in the world maps. though it is actually incorrect in depicting the actual geographical area distribution. We today know the seven continents, the five oceans, the land mass or water bodies they span across and so on.
We also know that the ancient vedic civilization was an advanced one with great achievements in science and technology, and so one becomes curious to know what was the geographical distribution mentioned in the vedic texts like? What were the names given to different parts of our planet Earth in these vedic texts?
This article is an attempt to answer such questions. But before that let us understand a bit about an ancient vedic practice – The Sankalpa – which is practiced even today.

The Sankalpa Determination
In the vedic way of life, Sankalpa means somewhat on lines of free will, a determination, a resolution, a kind of oath which one takes. The veda says that the entire universe itself was created because of a Sankalpa by the Supreme Consciousness (Narayana or Vishnu).
By making a Sankalpa the person becomes committed to the goal. Sankalpa is an expression by the Saadhaka (doer) about his goals (Saadhana). The Sankalpa becomes the foundation for a person who is all set to achieve a specific goal.
When a person makes a Sankalpa, he is also supposed to mention the time of the day when the Sankalpa was made, the geographical location where the Sankalpa was made, the purpose of the Sankalpa, the mode of achieving the goal, the name of the person doing the Sankalpa and so on. This is called Sankalpa Shlokha.
The Geographical Element of a Sankalpa
In the Sankalpa Shlokha, when one talks about the geography of the location, it starts as follows
Jambudveepe Bharatha Varshe Bharata Khande
and can go on to mention the specific location like
Mangalooru Nagare Svagrahe (meaning at my home which is in the City of Mangalore)
This is something that has been passed down for generations, being practised even today at the beginning of every vedic ritual. And in this article we talk about the the first three terms referring to geography which is Jambudvipa, Bharatha Varsha and Bharatha Khanda. People usually think that Bharatha Varsha and Bharatha Khanda mean the same, but they are not. The hierarchy in the Sankalpa Shlokha clearly says that Bharatha Khanda is inside Bharatha Varsha. So we shall see what they are. And we will also see what exactly is Jambudveepa.

Geography of the Ancient World
As per the ancient Indian Purana & Itihasa texts, in the very ancient times the entire landmass in the northern hemisphere was surrounded by ocean in all the directions. This giant land mass on earth was called Jambudvipa. Dvipa in Sanskrit means an Island. Jambudveepa consisted of modern Asia, Europe, Africa and North America.
This Jambudvipa was divided into nine varshas (geographical regions) of which one was Bharatha Varsha. The other eight varshas were Ketumula Varsha, Hari Varsha, Ilavrita Varsha, Kuru Varsha, Hiranyaka Varsha, Ramyaka Varsha, Kimpurusha Varsha, Bhadrasva Varsha.
Of these, Ilavrita Varsha was at the present North Pole (the Arctic Region)! More about this could be found in the fantastic research done by Lokamayna Bal Gangadhar Tilak in his book “The Arctic Home in the Vedas”

Approximate Geography of the Ancient World

Above is the Geographical Map of the very ancient times mentioned in the Vedic texts. We have an approximate depiction of Jambudvipa and the nava varshas here. North Pole was at the exact center of Ilavrita Varsha. To the west of Ilavrita varsha was said to be  Ketumula Varsha most of which is today under Atlantic Ocean. To the east of Ilvarita Varsha was Bhadrasva Varsha which is today under Pacific Ocean. On one side of the Ilavrita Varsha were Hari Varsha, Kimpurusha Varsha and Bharatha Varsha. On the other side of the Ilavrita Varsha were Ramyaka, Hiranyaka and Kuru Varsha. Kuru Varsha was hence on the opposite side of Bharatha Varsha on the globe.
It can be observed that in those times, most of South American continent, southern half of African Continent and entire Australia were submerged under water. On the other hand most of modern day Atlantic ocean and Pacific ocean, and the entire Arctic ocean were above sea level.
NOTE: What we believe to be accurate world map today is not that accurate after all either. See Incorrect Geographical Area Distribution in Modern World Map

The Ancient Greater India – Bharathavarsha
In the Ancient Times India was called Bharathavarsha and it extended in the west including modern Egypt, Afghanistan, Baluchistan, Iran, Sumeria upto Caspian Sea (which was called Kashyapa Samudra in those days). Bhratahvarsha was the Greater India while Bharatha Khanda referred to the Indian Subcontinent which lies at the heart of the Vedic Civilization and extended from Himalayas in the north to KanyaKumari in the South. So the aryan invasion theory of a migration of Aryans from Central Asia to modern northern India is a baseless theory, for the entire ancient aryan civilizational geography spanned across the above mentioned regions. The very term “arya” in Sanskrit refers not to any race, but actually means a “noble person”.
The Puranas and Ithihasas are full of historical developments in the Bharatha Varsha. The now dried up Saraswati river mentioned numerous times in the vedas is the heart of this vedic civilization, and it is from here the vedic civilization spread across the Bharatha Varsha during the vedic period. The “Out of India” theory talks about this. The Saraswati river dried up at the end of the Mahabharatha Period due to geological events in the region. It was around this time that the earlier lush green area of the present Rajasthan had got converted into a desert as we see it today.
During the vedic period Arabian sea did not exist, and the land mass stretched continuously from modern India to Africa. The mighty Saraswati river born in the Himalayas flowed for over 4500 miles into Africa before entering the Oceans. This was the largest and longest river in those days. This is the most mentioned and praised river in the Veda. Of the three Ganga Yamuna Saraswati – we know the existence of the first two rivers which flow even today, and Saraswati till recent times was thought to be a mythical river. But recent satellite photographs and geological data have proved the existence of an ancient mighty Saraswati river and its geographical span.
Nuclear Wars In Ancient India – Literary Evidence -

I recently watched a History Channel Documentary Video which talked about Ancient Nuclear Wars in the Indian Subcontinent – based on the literary evidences in ancient vedic texts and epics like Mahabharatha and the modern findings of archaeological excavations at sites like Mohen Jo Daro.
When Robert Oppenheimer (the Father of the Modern Atomic Bomb) witnessed the detonation of the First Atom Bomb Test at New Mexico July 16, 1945, the following lines from Bhagavadgita flashed through his mind
Now, I am become Death, the destroyer of worlds
After the Manhattan Test, during a visit to a school – when a student asked Oppenheimer about how he felt having witnessed the explosion of the first nuclear bomb on earth, Oppenheimer is said to have replied something on the lines of
First Yes, in recent history though
So were there nuclear weapons and atomic warfare in the ancient history of mankind? Were our ancestors so intelligent that they developed nuclear weapons?
There have been numerous references across the web about passages in Mahabharatha, Ramayana, Vedas etc mentioning weapons of mass destruction (WMDs). But I wanted to cross check the references myself with the authentic original texts. And when I did so, what I found in the original texts was amazing information even when compared to the usual copy-paste mentions found in different websites and forums across the Internet.

An Opinion on Ancient Intelligence
Many people question “How on earth could people who lived thousands of  years ago have known such an advanced science”.
Does “Ancient” mean “dumb”? What is Advanced Science? Almost all of the major scientific and technological advances of modern society were invented / discovered / created in the last two to five centuries. If in just such a short span of time, we modern humans could create such a level of advanced technology – one can only imagine about the advanced technology a human civilization which spanned for thousands of years in continuum would have created.
Modern Humans (The Intelligent Brain bearing Homo Sapiens) have been on this planet for the past 200,000 years. To say that this intelligent species only discovered science and technology in the past 500 years or so is like saying, babies learn to walk and talk at the age of 80s or 90s.
The vedic civilization spanned from around 10500 BCE (the event mentioning Abhijit (Vega Star) becoming the Pole Star) to around 3000 BCE (Most recent possible dating of Mahabharatha based on astronomical and geological data). Now it is left only to once’s imagination as to how much scientifically and technologically a civilization that spanned across these many millenniums could have achieved! (See a sample Astronomic Dating of Vedic Age)
Why hasn’t all that ancient science and technology been documented then?
Well, we know that the ancient Egyptians built the Pyramids of Egypt. But where is the ancient Egyptian documentation describing the technology they used to build those pyramids? How those massive blocks were lifted and placed so accurately? Does the absence of any such documentation mean the ancient Egyptians did not build it?
OK fine. We at least have the pyramids in place. And since we modern humans did not build these pyramids, and based on the carbon dating and other evidences we can certainly say that the ancient Egyptians build it, even though we are left with no ancient documentation about how they built it.
Cool, so here are the evidences of an Ancient Nuclear War.
Literary Evidences of an Ancient Atomic War

Mahabharatha – Mausala Parva (Book 16)
Mahabharatha – The Longest Epic in the world with around 100,000 verses – is the history of the ancient world centered around ancient India at the end of the Dwapara Yuga – dating back to anywhere around 3500 BCE to 6000 BCE – based on the astronomical dating proofs and the drying up of the mighty vedic river Saraswati which is said to have taken place at the End of the Mahabharatha period.
This large historic documentation has 18 books of which Book 16 – The Mausala Parva is the one which contains numerous references to the nuclear weapons and its after math effects including radiation.
The Book 16 starts with the following lines, and I really wonder how on earth could people have ignored these lines for so long!
36 Years after the great Mahabharata war – strong and dry winds carrying gravels (rock fragments) still blew from every side. The horizon was always covered with some kind of fog in all directions. Blazing pieces of coal fell from sky to earth. The disc of the Sun was always covered with dust.
Now the reason for the occurrences of such drastic changes in nature could be only one of the three mentioned below
An asteroid / comet impact
A massive volcano
The aftermath of a massive nuclear war
Volcanoes are ruled out in this part of the world. And we have no literary evidences of any asteroid or comet impact during that period. However what we have is the literary evidence of a massive war that took place during that period of time – and the adverse effects on nature are described in the texts to be a result of the war itself.
The war itself was so devastating that even though the Pandavas won the war technically, practically everything was destroyed in the war. The entire armies of both sides of the warring factions were wiped out in the war. Duryodhana, the Chief Kaurva – after having lost the war,  on his death bed says
Pandavas may have won the war, but what has been Yudhishtira (the Chief Pandava) left with to rule upon?
Ask any modern day military expert, and he will tell you – there are no real winners in a nuclear war.
Given that Millions of soldiers died in the Mahabharatha war which lasted for just 18 days
In depth description in the texts about the nature of the powerful weapons used in the war
The detailed description of the adverse impact the war had on nature which was so obvious even 36 years after the war
Hence it becomes quite obvious that Weapons of Mass Destruction (WMDs) were used in the Mahabharatha war.

Mahabharatha – The Destruction of Yadavas
Not only during the Mahabharatha war, but a couple of decades after the Mahabharatha war – when the Yadavas (Vrishnis and Andhakas) fought amongst themselves and destroyed each other – even then it looks like nuclear bombs were used.
The Mausala Parva describes the impact of this battle as follows
Asses were born of kine, and elephants of mules. Cats were born of bitches, and mouse of the mongoose
This is an obvious reference to the widespread genetic mutations that take place in the off-springs of animals in the presence of strong nuclear radiation. This again supports the theory that the war saw the use of nuclear weapons.
Another interesting piece of information in the Mausala Parva is when it says-
These weapons, having achieved success, have gone away to the place they came from. They will, again, come into thy hands when the Time for their coming approaches.
This is in relation to a very old project I have been working on, during available free time – Alien Twist to God - expected to be published hopefully in the near future. There are multiple references to Extra Terrestrials like this in many ancient vedic texts.

Mahabharatha – Vana Parva (Book 3)
Here (Chapter 22) Krishna describes the war he fought earlier with the Salwa King who had attacked Krishna’s city Dwaraka. It is said that the Salwa King had a aircraft (Vimana) called Saubha Vimana which the king used for both travel and aerial warfare.
Krishna says that
The sound of this Salwa’s spacecraft was inaudible and this flying car made up of costly metals used to vanish creating illusion!
Clearly an aerial vehicle being “inaudible” shows the level of technology it had, and on top of that it used to disappear quite often. The term used for such aerial vehicles in modern military terminology is Stealth Fighters
Krishna further describes the aircraft as
It was capable of going anywhere at will, bewildering my eyes, reappeared at Pragjyotisha (a nearby city). Then it  suddenly drowned me with a mighty shower of rocks
Angered by the destruction of his city Dwaraka by Salwa’s aircraft, Krishna then decides to destroy it completely and brings out his favorite weapon which he describes as
the weapon of fire, blazing and of celestial origin, of irresistible force, and incapable of being baffled, bursting with energy, capable of penetrating into anything and everything
Celestial origin most probably refers to the principle of nuclear fusion which powers the stars. So most probably it was a thermonuclear device. The impact of the launch of this weapon was that rising into the sky, it seemed like a second sun of exceeding effulgence – it not only killed Salwa and destroyed his aircraft but it was launched further and destroyed the entire city of Saubha (Salwa’s Capital City) which was located at a place as high as the top of a mountain.
Krishna also says that the weapon used was also used earlier in history when the
Gods reduced to ashes the Yakshas, Rakshasas and Danavas.

The great ancient Indian epic, the Mahabharata, contains numerous legends about the powerful force of a mysterious weapon.

The archaeological expedition, which carried out excavations near the Indian settlement of Mohenjo-Daro in the beginning of the 1900s, uncovered the ruins of a big ancient town. The town belonged to one of the most developed civilizations in the world. The ancient civilization existed for two or three thousand years. However, scientists were a lot more interested in the death of the town, rather than in its prosperity.
Researchers tried to explain the reason of the town's destruction with various theories. However, scientists did not find any indications of a monstrous flood, skeletons were not numerous, there were no fragments of weapons, or anything else that could testify either to a natural disaster or a war. Archaeologists were perplexed: according to their analysis the catastrophe in the town had occurred very unexpectedly and it did hot last long.
Scientists Davneport and Vincenti put forward an amazing theory. They stated the ancient town had been ruined with a nuclear blast. They found big stratums of clay and green glass. Apparently, archaeologists supposed, high temperature melted clay and sand and they hardened immediately afterwards. Similar stratums of green glass can also found in Nevada deserts after every nuclear explosion.
A hundred years have passed since the excavations in Mohenjo-Daro. The modern analysis showed, the fragments of the ancient town had been melted with extremely high temperature – not less than 1,500 degrees centigrade. Researchers also found the strictly outlined epicenter, where all houses were leveled. Destructions lessened towards the outskirts. Dozens of skeletons were found in the area of Mohenjo-Daro – their radioactivity exceeded the norm almost 50 times.
The great ancient Indian epic, the Mahabharata, contains numerous legends about the powerful force of amysterious weapon. One of the chapters tells of a shell, which sparkled like fire, but had no smoke. “When the shell hit the ground, the darkness covered the sky, twisters and storms leveled the towns. A horrible blast burnt thousands of animals and people to ashes. Peasants, townspeople and warriors dived in the river to wash away the poisonous dust.”
Astounding mysteries of India's ancient times can be found in the town of Shivapur. There are two enigmatic stones resting opposite the local shrine. One of them weighs 55 kilograms, the other one is 41 kilograms. If eleven men touch the bigger stone, and nine men touch the smaller stone, if they all chant the magic phrase, which is carved on one of the walls of the shrine, the two stones will raise two meters up in the air and will hang there for two seconds, as if there is no gravitation at all. A lot of European and Asian scientists and researchers have studied the phenomenon of levitating stones of Shivapur.
Modern people divide the day into 24 hours, the hour – into 60 minutes, the minute - into 60 seconds. Ancient Hindus divided the day in 60 periods, lasting 24 minutes each, and so on and so forth. The shortest time period of ancient Hindus made up one-three-hundred-millionth of a second.

...Nuclear war in Ancient India !!!

Nuclear war in Ancient India !!!

Hello friends, while researching for one of my blog posts i stumbled upon some articles regarding Nuclear Warfare in Ancient India.. I have posted it from various sources with some editing..
Julius Robert Oppenheimer is remembered as "The Father of the Atomic Bomb". During a college lecture, Oppenheimer was asked: 'Was the atomic test at Alamagordo the first nuclear blast?' The student meant: Was there a U.S. program before Alamagordo? Oppenheimer answered: 'Yes, in modern times.' The creator of the A-Bomb meant: Our atomic program was the first, not counting the ancient nuclear wars of the distant past. Oppenheimer was a student of the old books of India; such as the Mahabharata, Bhagavad Gita. They are not fictional stories. They are history. They speak of flying vimanas. Vimanas were real vehicles and the origin of the 'Aeroplanes .' Great wars were described in these early texts. Weapons could literally level the land like a moving force field. In ancient India, we find words for certain measurements of length; one was the distance of light-years and one was the length of an atom. Only a society that possessed nuclear energy would have the need for such words. When Oppenheimer said 'I am become the destroyer of worlds,' he was quoting from these ancient books. Believe it or not, the deserts on a number of continents today are the result of (prehistoric) nuclear warfare. Historian Kisari Mohan Ganguli says that Indian sacred writings are full of such descriptions, which sound like an atomic blast as experienced in Hiroshima and Nagasaki. He says references mention fighting sky chariots and final weapons. An ancient battle is described in the Drona Parva, a section of the Mahabharata. "The passage tells of combat where explosions of final weapons decimate entire armies, causing crowds of warriors with steeds and elephants and weapons to be carried away as if they were dry leaves of trees," says Ganguli.

Consider these verses from the ancient Mahabharata: ...a single projectile Charged with all the power of the Universe. An incandescent column of smoke and flame As bright as the thousand suns Rose in all its splendour... a perpendicular explosion with its billowing smoke clouds... ...the cloud of smoke rising after its first explosion formed into expanding round circles like the opening of giant parasols... ..it was an unknown weapon, An iron thunderbolt, A gigantic messenger of death, Which reduced to ashes The entire race of the Vrishnis and the Andhakas. ...The corpses were so burned As to be unrecognisable. The hair and nails fell out; Pottery broke without apparent cause, And the birds turned white. After a few hours All foodstuffs were infected... ...to escape from this fire The soldiers threw themselves in streams To wash themselves and their equipment.

Until the bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki, modern mankind could not imagine any weapon as horrible and devastating as those described in the ancient Indian texts. Yet they very accurately described the effects of an atomic explosion. Radioactive poisoning will make hair and nails fall out. Immersing oneself in water gives some respite, though it is not a cure. When excavations of Harappa and Mohenjo-Daro reached the street level, they discovered skeletons scattered about the cities, many holding hands and sprawling in the streets as if some instant, horrible doom had taken place. People were just lying, unburied, in the streets of the city. Excavations down to the street level revealed 44 scattered skeletons, as if doom had come so suddenly they could not get to their houses. All the skeletons were flattened to the ground. A father, mother and child were found flattened in the street, face down and still holding hands. And these skeletons are thousands of years old, even by traditional archaeological standards. What could cause such a thing? Why did the bodies not decay or get eaten by wild animals? Furthermore, there is no apparent cause of a physically violent death.

There is evidence that the Rama empire (now India) was devastated by nuclear war. The Indus valley is now the Thar desert, and the site of the radioactive ash found west of Jodhpur is around there. A heavy layer of radioactive ash in Rajasthan, India, covers a three-square mile area, ten miles west of Jodhpur. Scientists are investigating the site, where a housing development was being built. For some time it has been established that there is a very high rate of birth defects and cancer in the area under construction. The levels of radiation there have registered so high on investigators' gauges that the Indian government has now cordoned off the region. Scientists have unearthed an ancient city where evidence shows an atomic blast dating back thousands of years, from 8,000 to 12,000 years, destroyed most of the buildings and probably a half-million people. One researcher estimates that the nuclear bomb used was about the size of the ones dropped on Japan in 1945. Another curious sign of an ancient nuclear war in India is a giant crater near Bombay. The nearly circular 2,154-metre-diameter Lonar crater, located 400 kilometres northeast of Mumbai and aged at less than 50,000 years old, could be related to nuclear warfare of antiquity. No trace of any meteoric material, etc., has been found at the site or in the vicinity, and this is the world's only known "impact" crater in basalt. Indications of great shock (from a pressure exceeding 600,000 atmospheres) and intense, abrupt heat (indicated by basalt glass spherules) can be ascertained from the site.

I feel ashamed of those Hindus who say Ramayana,Mahabharata is just a work of poetry and fiction.. Untill we make an attempt to read them , no mysteries which are in deep in these books can be revived..
